Description

Which dose is right for me?
If you are taking Ozempic for the first time, you will most likely be prescribed a dose of 0.25mg per week. It is important to stick to the dosing schedule as the escalation process will slowly introduce the medication into your body while minimising potential side effects. If you do not experience any of the side effects, your doctor will recommend that you increase the dose to 0.5ml. The maximum dose of Ozempic is 2 mg once a week. This dose should only be recommended if your blood glucose levels need to change due to changes in your type 2 diabetes. Although the doses may be different, the way Ozempic is taken, the 1 mg and 2 mg dosing pens, is the same.

How many doses are contained in a 1 mg pen of Ozempic?
A single pen of Ozempic, with a concentration of 4 mg/3 ml per pen, delivers a weekly dose of 1 mg with each injection from that pen, for a total of four doses. Together with the pen, the package contains four NovoFine Plus needles. This pen is specifically designed to maintain A1C levels at a dosage of 1 mg. Each pen is sufficient for one month’s treatment with four 1 mg doses.

How much weight can you lose with an Ozempic 1 mg pen?
A study of once-weekly injections of Ozempic looked at adults who weighed an average of 91.8 kg or 99.5 kg at the start of the studies. The study showed that patients lost up to 6.4 kg on average, although some patients gained weight.

Study 1: Patients taking a 0.5 mg dose of Ozempic lost an average of 3.6 kg and those taking a 1 mg dose lost 4.5 kg.

Study 2: The patients who took Ozempic at a dose of 1 mg lost an average of 5.5 kg, the patients who took the 2 mg dose lost 6.3 kg.

Can you take 2 doses of 1 mg Ozempic?
Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor. An overdose can lead to hypoglycemia (a sharp drop in blood sugar levels that can last for a long time). It is important that you monitor your blood glucose levels regularly to maintain a steady blood glucose level. If you require a higher dose, discuss this with your healthcare provider and they may replace your pen with a higher strength of 8mg/3ml per pen.
